Annual Governance Statement for the Governing Body of
Sharow and Skelton Newby Hall Church of England Schools
The core strategic functions of the Governing Body are:-
1. Ensuring Clarity of Vision
2. Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the schools and their pupils.
3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure it’s money is well spent.
The governing body of Sharow and Skelton Newby Hall Schools was reconstituted in September 2014 as is now made up of:-
Two Parent Governors
One Staff Governor
One Local Authority Governor
Four Co-opted Governor
Three Foundation Governors.
The total number of Governors is twelve.
The Governing Body requires a range of skills in order to contribute to effective governance and the success of the school, essential skills for governors are:
Commitment to improving educations for all pupils
Ability to work in a professional manner as part of a team and take collective responsibility for decisions
Willingness to learn
Commitment to the School’s vision and ethos
Has basic literacy and numeracy skills
Has basic IT skills (i.e. word processing and email)
