Move aside, Monet...

Diamond Class have had a fantastic two weeks on their art block. Every adult who has entered our classroom has been staggered by our knowledge of art styles and artists, our ability to name the seven elements of art, and our knowledge of Impressionism, which was popularised by Claude Monet in 19th Century France.

We practised impressionist techniques, such as building an image using brush strokes, without sketching outlines, and spontaneously going outside to sketch an aspect of our school setting ‘en plein air’.

Our learning culminated in producing our own ‘Bags for Life’. The designs were inspired by the Year 5/6 upcoming trip to London; Banksy’s use of stencils to create his designs; the impressionist style of building streaks of colour; and Monet’s interest in painting landmarks such as Westminster Bridge.
